Dainty White tops are trending big this summer! Have you seen the "My Dainty White Top Collection" videos all over social media, where a creator will share her personal dainty white top collection and do a try on video? As a lifetime dainty white top lover, these videos are my favorite and are so much fun! I love seeing other girlie's collections. Dainty white tops — from delicate lace blouses to crisp white shirts and soft cotton dresses — have been a recurring motif in fashion for centuries, evolving from undergarments to symbols of elegance and cultural identity.
What is a dainty white top? Any white top that includes dainty and feminine details such as: eyelet, ribbons or bows, lace or lace trim, ruffles, scalloped hems or scalloped details, embroidery and more. A dainty white top can be sleeveless, short sleeve , off the shoulder, or long sleeve, and can be made from any material. In the summer, a dainty white top made out of 100% cotton or linen is breathable and feels great on the skin. In the winter, a dainty white top can be a delicately knit pointelle sweater or a beautiful silk blouse.
Here are some of my favorite dainty white tops currently in the shop:

Despite their recent surge in popularity this spring and summer, dainty white tops have been around FOREVER! Today these blouses are fashionable symbols of delicate femininity, but for centuries they were a necessity as women's undergarments.Â
In ancient civilizations, women often wore linen and cotton chemises underneath their clothes, which were symbols of purity, virtue and sometimes nobility and status. In the Middle Ages, white shirts were often long-sleeved linen undergarments with high collars, worn beneath more elaborate outerwear. In the Renaissance period, white shirts became a fashion statement for the wealthy, adorned with lace and embroidery to display social standing. Later, in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, pristine white undergarments were marks of respectability, cleanliness and purity worn under intricately designed gowns. The 1783 portrait of Marie Antoinette by Madame Vigée-Lebrun, showing her in a loose, ruffled white cotton blouse dress, caused a scandal at court. In the early 1900s, chemises, nightgowns and knickers often included details such as scalloped edges, embroidery and ribbons. White lingerie continued to rise in popularity in later decades as symbols of style and modernity.

Dainty white tops have always had a place within boho style. Bohemian fashion originated in the late 18th and 19th centuries, influenced by artists, writers, and creatives who lived a minimalist, nomadic lifestyle after the French Revolution and modeled after the free spirited, flowing fabric, and style of the Romani people. The boho look was amplified in the 1960s and 1970s by the hippie movement, with flowing white tops becoming iconic. By the early 2000s, the style was rebranded as boho-chic, a more curated, high-fashion version of bohemianism, The dainty white top became a versatile base layer in this look — clean, flowy, and easy to layer over skirts, dresses, or other tops.

Throughout history, dainty white tops have proven themselves to be a versatile and timeless base layer. They are a clean canvas to build your outfit around, allowing the other elements, or the top itself, to shine and stand out.
How to wear a dainty white top >>> A dainty white top goes with everything! Pair it with bottoms such as: any color and style of denim, cutoff shorts, skirts of any length, pattern or color, and any other type or color of pants or shorts. In spring and summer, pair your dainty white top with shorts, skirts, or linen pants. In fall and winter, your dainty white top does not have to sit bored in your closet! Pull it out and let it peek out from under a v-neck or crewneck sweaters, cardigan, blazer, and other jackets. The delicate details on your top will instantly bring femininity to often usually dark fall and winter wardrobes.Â
Thinking beyond the Dainty White top... Of course, the Dainty White top is a classic - feminine, beautiful, goes with anything and everything in every season - an instant outfit upgrade. But may I introduce you to... other dainty tops ;). The black dainty top (same idea with lace Trim, ruffles, eyelet, or scalloped details) instantly gives your outfit a rock and roll edge. It says, I like feminine dainty tops, but in a cool way. A dainty top also looks gorgeous in any color - brown, red, yellow, powder blue, navy, or even prints like floral or gingham - as long as it has the feminine details that make the top "dainty". You don't have to be stuck wearing only dainty white tops in this fashion genre. Experiment with and buy dainty blouses in colors that flatter your skin tone and personal color story.Â

There's even more steps beyond a dainty white top >>> We can expand this idea of delicate feminine details - eyelet, lace, embroidery, scalloped details - to shorts, pants and skirts. Here are some of my favorite dainty shorts currently on www.shopambermoon.com:
